Verification of Designed Urban Rainstorm Patterns for Pluvial Flooding

Verification of Designed Urban Rainstorm Patterns for Pluvial Flooding

  • To assess the impact of designed storm patterns on urban pluvial flooding, a verification method was proposed for evaluating the rationality. Using precipitation data (2017—2021) from 13 national stations in Zone 1(the designated applicable area for storm patterns in Chongqing), four design methods including Pilgrim & Cordery, Chicago, NRMR, and same-frequency analysis were evaluated. The results indicate that the proposed verification method achieved an accuracy of 84.9% in Chongqing, demonstrating its practical value. Storm patterns generated by the NRMR and same-frequency analysis methods are more suitable for the region. Urban waterlogging in Chongqing shows limited correlation with total storm rainfall or storm pattern type, however, pre-waterlogging rainfall, average rainfall intensity, and maximum rainfall intensity are significant influencing factors.
