Abstract:
Based on conventional observation data (METAR messages) from the Automatic Weather Observation System (AWOS) at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport from 2018 to 2022, using methods such as periodic analysis, trend analysis, categorical analysis and mean value analysis, the temporal and spatial characteristics of visibility at the airport are investigated. The results indicate that the annual average visibility at Jiangbei Airport showed an overall upward trend, increasing from 7,428 m in 2018 to 8,134 m in 2022. In terms of seasonal variation, visibility in spring and summer was significantly better than that in autumn and winter. Weather events with visibility below the airport's landing and takeoff standards occurred with notably higher frequency in autumn and winter compared to summer, but the overall occurrence has decreased year by year. The Third Runway was the most severely affected by fog, with the southern end (End 03L) experiencing frequent low visibility incidents during the morning peak period in winter.
