Abstract:
Based on the data of cloud-to-ground lightning in Neijiang City from 2009 to 2023 (detected by ADTD lightning location system in Sichuan Province), the variation characteristics of lightning activities in Neijiang City were analyzed. The results show that: (1) From 2009 to 2023, negative lightning occurred frequently in Neijiang City. Lightning activity occurred every month, with the high-incidence period from June to August. In terms of seasonal variation, lightning was most frequent in summer, relatively less in spring and autumn, and rare in winter. The diurnal variation trend showed that lightning activity was most active from evening to the early morning of the next day, followed by the afternoon. According to the EOF analysis, the spatial distribution of the first mode showed the same changing characteristics, with lightning activity mainly concentrated in the western part of Neijiang City. The spatial distribution of the second mode showed opposite variation characteristics, with lightning activity mainly concentrated in the eastern part of the city. (3) The average annual intensity of cloud-to-ground lightning was 33.12 kA, mainly ranging from 5 to 20 kA. The average cloud-to-ground lightning density in the whole city was 2.55 times/(km
2·a). (4) In terms of regional differences, lightning activities occurred frequently in urban areas and places close to water bodies, such as rivers, lakes and mountainous areas with significant topographic relief.
