The Distribution Characters of the Stratospheric Zonal Mean Temperature and Water Vapor during 1979-2011

  • Based on the ERA-Interim reanalysis data,the distribution characters of the stratospheric zonal mean temperature and water vapor for 1979-2011 were studied. The results showed that the distribution characters of the stratospheric zonal mean temperature and water vapor varied with altitude,latitude and seasons,and closely related to each other. In the tropical,the zonal mean temperature had an increased trend,while in the northern and southern hemispheres it decreased in the lower stratosphere and increased in upper stratosphere in the past 33 years. The long-term trend of stratospheric water vapor had an increased trend in different altitude and latitude bands. The decreasing trend of the zonal mean temperature in two hemispheres and the increasing trend of stratospheric water vapor,further verified the fact that the global climate is warming.
