Introduction of Implementing MYJ Boundary Scheme to AREM Model and Its Performance

  • Weather prediction practices show that the AREM model can well capture the feature of heavy rainfall in China. However, there are only two boundary schemes in the model and one of them has not used in NWP model today. There are discrepancies of precipitation simulated by model with different boundary scheme, so implementing a boundary scheme to AREM model may improve its simulation abilities of heavy rainfall. The procedures of implementing Mellor-Yamada-Janjić (MYJ) boundary scheme to AREM mode were introduced in this paper and many cases of heavy rain were studied. The results indicate that rainfall areas can better predicted by AREM model with MYJ scheme than its older ones.
