Application of Dachuan Wind Profile Radar in Heavy Rain Event

Application of Dachuan Wind Profile Radar in Heavy Rain Event

  • Using conventional observation data and Dachuan wind profile radar data, the heavy rain weather process that occurred in Dachuan District from July 8 to 11, 2024 was analyzed. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The heavy rain was caused by tthe eastward retreat of the subtropical high, the eastward movement of the plateau shortwave trough, the eastward and southward shift of the low-level shear line, and the stable maintenance of the low vortex. The configuration of “upper-level divergence and lower-level convergence” was conducive to the development of vertical upward motion and water vapor convergence. The strengthening of the southwesterly wind, enhanced low vortex convergence, and the intrusion of cold air contributed to the increase in precipitation intensity. (2) The wind profile radar could reflect the formation and dissipation times of systems such as the low trough, shear line, and low vortex, as well as changes in the intensity of the southwesterly airflow. During heavy precipitation, the southwesterly wind was strong (>12 m·s−1), and a low-level jet stream was often observed, with active shear and low vortex in the middle and lower levels. (3) The magnitude and height of the vertical velocity of the wind profile were proportional to the precipitation.
