Abstract: Based on the lightning location data of 2014, this paper analyzes the lightning frequency distribution, positive and negative characteristics in Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with mathematical statistics. The results show that: (1) The hourly distribution of lightning activity on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau shows a unimodal pattern, and that on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau shows a bimodal pattern. (2) There is more negative lightning than positive lightning in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, but the proportion of positive lightning is higher than other low altitude areas, and the proportion of positive lightning is the smallest in summer.
