Abstract: Based on the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data as well as observational data from three meteorological station, this study analyzes the lake area variation of Tharinamtso during 2002~2017 and the relationship with meteorological elements. The results show that the lake area of Tharinamtso demonstrates an increase trend during 16 years. Spatially, the western and northern area of Tharinamtso increase obviously, especially an isle in the northern area which formed and then disappeared. The temperature shows an increase trend, while the precipitation and evaporation shows a decrease trend. The lake area is positive correlation with the temperature, and negative correlation with the precipitation and evaporation.
